Abstract
Tujuan penelitian ini adalah menemukan pengaruh pendidikan sekunder dan tersier terhadap taraf hidup yang diukur dengan indikator negatif Indeks Kemiskinan dan Kelaparan (IKK). Data yang bersumber dari BPS digunakan adalah Indeks komposit IKK yang merangkum Indeks Kedalaman Kemiskinan tingkat Provinsi, proporsi penduduk yang hidup di bawah Garis Kemiskinan tingkat provinsi, dan proporsi penduduk yang mengkonsumsi kalori di bawah 1400 ccal per hari per jiwa. Perhitungan IKK dilakukan, kemudian pemilihan model dilakukan. Setelah model yang tepat dipilih, dilakukan estimasi terhadap IKK sebagai variabel terikat dan persentase penduduk dengan pendidikan sekunder dan pendidikan tersier sebagai variabel penjelas. Variabel kontrol terdiri dari pendapatan per kapita, jumlah pekerja mandiri, jumlah pekerja formal dan jumlah pekerja bebas nonpertanian. Analisis data panel dilakukan setelah model yang tepat dilakukan. Hasil estimasi menunjukkan bahwa tingkat pendidikan tersier berpengaruh negatif dan signifikan terhadap IKK, sementara persentase penduduk dengan pendidikan sekunder tidak signifikan mempengaruhi IKK. Satu cara untuk meningkatkan taraf hidup melalui penurunan IKK adalah dengan peningkatan pendidikan, terutama untuk daerah-daerah yang angka melanjutkan pendidikan ke tersier masih rendah.
